President Barack Obama is considered by some to be the nation's first black president - but Morgan Freeman isn't one such individual.
The actor told "TELL ME MORE" host Michel Martin in an interview posted Thursday that "the first thing" that he thinks of when he thinks of Obama is "all of the people who are setting up this barrier for him," Morgan said.
"They just conveniently forget that Barack had a mama, and she was white - very white American, Kansas, middle America," the Oscar winner continued. "There was no argument about who he is or what he is. America's first black president hasn't arisen yet. He's not America's first black president - he's America's first mixed-race president."
Race aside, however, Freeman also mentioned that he believes the president has been treated unfairly by members of the opposing party.
"He is being purposely, purposely thwarted by the Republican Party, who started out at the beginning of his tenure by saying, 'We are going to do whatever is necessary to make sure that he only has one term,'" Freeman said. "That means they will not cooperate with him on anything. So to say he's ineffective is a misappropriation of the facts."

Heidi Klum and Seal seem to be moving on pretty well from their publicized split earlier this year - or, at least, they are in the press.
Klum gave a German media outlet a hopeful response when the topic of her divorce from the "Kiss from a Rose" singer came up, and Seal, who's promoting a new album, tells USA Today that he's also doing well.
Seal's preparing to kick off a North American tour today, and he told the paper that he understands some fans are likely still taken aback that his seven-year union to Klum didn't last.
"When you live your private life in public, and things aren't necessarily as rosy as people think, you owe it to the public to speak up," the 49-year-old singer/songwriter said."There were people genuinely upset that what they thought was perfect was no longer."
Seal himself isn't shedding any tears, though. "I'm in an excellent place right now," he said of his post-breakup life. "In a situation like this, your priority is your children. As long as the children are happy, I'm happy."
Klum must have the same philosophy, because she said as much in a recent interview with the German newspaper Bild am Sonntag.
"I look into the future, concentrate on my family and I have to say that I'm happy,” she said. “There are worse things in life than a separation."

Considering that Bret Easton Ellis' upcoming film "The Canyons" is expected to involve some steamy scenes, it wouldn't be surprising if the rumor mill churned out gossip about "Canyons" stars Lindsay Lohan and adult actor James Deen becoming intimate.
But Deen, a.k.a. the prolific porn star known for looking like "the guy next door," swears in an interview that he and Lohan have been nothing but professional.
"I can definitely honestly say Lindsay Lohan and I are not having sex!" Deen told Animal New York, via The Huffington Post.
James Deen, other porn stars who've gone mainstream
"I don't know anything about her except for that she's a really nice, down-to-earth, normal 25-year-old girl," he said of Lohan, who turned 26 on July 2. "We went to a business dinner and she was very professional. She drank coffee and water. Then she had to call for a car because she couldn't walk ten feet from the door because of the paparazzi."
And according to Deen, their roles in the film aren't even going to be that salacious - certainly not in the way his usual film shoots are.
Any sex and nudity in the script is "all necessary to the story. This is not an adult film. We are not trying to arouse people," Deen says. "If someone does get aroused, well, it happens."
"Canyons," he says, is along the lines of Ellis' earlier works, "American Psycho" and "Less Than Zero": "It's not graphic sex for the sake of graphic sex."
Production on "The Canyons" is expected to begin in Los Angeles on July 9.
